A Clinical observation has been made on 888 cases of postterm pregnancies out of 14,241 cases delivered at Dept. of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Fatima Hospital, Daegu, during 2 years since Jan. 1,1988 to Dec 31,1989. Postterm pregnancy was defined as a pregnancy that it exceeds 294 days calculated from first day of the last menstrual period. The results are as follows; 1. The incidence of postterm pregnancy was 6.24% with highest incidence occuring in the 21~30 years group. The incidence of postterm pregnancy in primipara(7.79%) was greater than that or multipara(3.87%). 2. In postterm pergnancies, the gestational weeks of 42 was the most prevalent (88.2%)and 43 weeks was the next(10.5%). 3. The modes of labor onset in postterm pregnancy showed induction (57.1%), spontaneous(38.3%), and no labor(4.6%). 4. The incidence of fetal distress was 4.28% and 1.07% in the postterm group and control group, respectively. 5. The incidence of large fetus (weight over 4,000 gm) was 6.19% and 4.66% in the postterm group and control group, respectively. 6. The modes of delivery in postterm pregnancy showed Spontaneous vaginal delivery 68.36% Vacuum extracted delivery 18.47% Breech extraction 0.34% Cesarean section 12.84% 7. The rate of Cesarean section in postterm pregnancies was 12.84% and it was lesser than that of term pregnancy (14.5%) during that same period. 8. As for indication of Cesarean section in postterm pregnancies, the cephalopelvic disproportion was the most prevalent and fetal distress, failed induction, malpresentation, previous Cesarean section was the next in order. 9. As for perinatal morbidity in postterm pregnancies, infectious morbidity was the most prevalent and asphyxia neonatorum, sepsis, neonatal hyperbilirubinemia, pneumonea was the next in order. 10. Admission test and acoustic stimulation test were performed on 490 cases among 888 cases of this study.
